Cinergy Certified · In Context

Not all certifications are built the same.

There are several credentials a home technology firm can display, and the good ones all share a goal: raising the bar of an unregulated industry. What separates them is how the mark is earned — and what it costs a firm to lose it.

This page explains how the Cinergy Certified model works, how it differs from other approaches, and the questions worth asking about any certification before you rely on it.

Four questions

How to evaluate any certification.

Whether it’s ours or anyone else’s, a trustworthy certification should have good answers to four questions.

Question 01

Who wrote the standard?

The Cinergy Standard is written and renewed by the member firms themselves — working professionals who install, service, and stand behind these systems every day. The people defining excellence are the people accountable to it.

Question 02

How is it earned?

By invitation only. Firms are selected on reputation and demonstrated work, then affirmatively attest — in writing, every year — to all six pillars of the Standard, under the review of fellow member firms.

Question 03

Can it be bought?

No. The mark is not sold as a product. It comes only with membership in a peer group capped at 50 firms worldwide — and it can be revoked at any time from a firm that no longer meets the Standard.

Question 04

Can you verify it?

Yes, in seconds. Every certified firm carries a public certification ID, and current status is checkable any time on the verification page — no account, no request form.

What the model trades

Scale for depth, on purpose.

Other credible programs — such as the Home Technology Association’s HTA Certified — evaluate firms that apply against published criteria and serve a broad network of dealers. Cinergy deliberately went the other way.

Fifty firms. Invitation only. A standard written by peers, backed by shared financials and open books inside the group, re-attested in writing every twelve months. It is a smaller mark by design, because the thing it certifies — that a community of the best firms in the world will vouch for this company with their own reputations — does not scale. Both models aim to protect homeowners; ours is built for the projects where the bar is highest.

Common questions

Asked and answered.

What makes Cinergy Certified different from other home technology certifications?

Four things: membership is invitation-only and capped at 50 firms worldwide; the standard is written by the member firms themselves; every firm re-earns the mark annually through written attestation and peer review, with real financial data shared inside the group; and the mark cannot be purchased — it comes only with peer membership.

How is Cinergy Certified different from HTA Certified?

The Home Technology Association (founded 2017) certifies firms that apply and meet its published criteria, across a broad North American network. Cinergy Certified is invitation-only, capped at 50 firms worldwide, peer-defined, and backed by shared financial benchmarking — and the mark cannot be applied for or purchased on its own. Both aim to raise the industry’s bar; Cinergy trades scale for depth of vetting and peer accountability.

Is Cinergy Certified a paid badge?

No. The mark is not sold and cannot be bought. It is available only to firms invited into the Cinergy peer group, earned — and re-earned annually — through written attestation to all six pillars of the Standard, under peer review.

How should a homeowner evaluate any certification claim?

Ask who wrote the standard, how compliance is verified and renewed, whether the mark can actually be revoked, and whether you can independently check a firm’s status. Any Cinergy Certified firm can be verified in seconds on the verification page.
